Rent car in Bali

A car in Bali solves the tasks that a bike cannot handle. A larger group, a family with children, luggage, air conditioning, protection from rain, and better stability on the road. A car allows you to move around comfortably without worrying about the weather or limiting yourself in the amount of things you can take. You can rent a compact hatchback for two people, a seven-seater minivan for a group, or a crossover for mountain roads.

Balico delivers cars across the island: Seminyak, Canggu, Kuta, Uluwatu, Ubud, Sanur, Denpasar, Nusa Dua, and Ngurah Rai Airport. All vehicles in the fleet are no older than five years and undergo regular maintenance before every rental. Insurance covers damage and theft. Payment is accepted in cash, by card, or by bank transfer. No deposit is required.

Vehicle Types and Applications

Compact models Honda Brio and Toyota Agya suit city driving and short trips. Economical, easy to park, low fuel consumption. Cabin seats five, trunk fits standard luggage for two to three people. Automatic transmission, air conditioning, rear camera — standard equipment for all fleet vehicles.

Toyota Raize — a compact crossover with increased clearance. Suitable for countryside trips on less-than-perfect roads. More comfortable on climbs than regular hatchbacks. Seats five adults with luggage.

Seven-seater minivans Daihatsu Terios, Daihatsu Xenia, Toyota Avanza accommodate large groups or families. Third-row seats fold if more cargo space needed. Air conditioning cools entire cabin evenly. Suitable for long trips and island circuits.

Honda HR-V and Honda BR-V — crossovers with good clearance. Higher ground clearance, softer suspension, roomier cabin. BR-V seats seven, HR-V seats five. Both options comfortable for routes with variable road quality.

Mitsubishi Xpander — another seven-seater minivan with spacious third row. Suits families with children or small travel groups.

Toyota Innova Reborn and Toyota Innova Zenix — full-size SUVs. Diesel engines, powerful suspension, high clearance. Comfortable for long trips and mountain routes. Zenix — newer version with updated interior and technology.

Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Pajero — premium-class SUVs. Four-wheel drive, high seating position, reliable construction. Suitable for trips to remote island areas and challenging road conditions.

Pricing and Rental Terms

Daily rental for compact cars starts from 500,000 IDR. Seven-seater minivans start from 600,000 IDR. Mid-range crossovers start from 690,000 IDR. Premium SUVs start from 1.5 million IDR per day.

Monthly rental is more cost-effective: compact models start from 8.5 million IDR, minivans from 9.9 million, crossovers from 11.5 million, and premium SUVs from 24 million. The longer the rental period, the lower the cost per day.

The minimum rental period for city cars is seven days. For premium models such as Zenix, Fortuner, and Pajero - from three days with standard insurance, and from seven days with full insurance. Rental is calculated per 24-hour day. If you pick up the car at 10:00, it should be returned by 10:00 the next day.

Delivery is free for rentals of seven days or more within a 25 km radius of Seminyak. This includes Canggu, Umalas, Kuta, Seminyak, Sanur, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua, Bukit, and the southern part of Ubud. The free delivery time window is from 9:00 to 18:00. Delivery at non-standard times or outside the zone is charged separately.

Insurance Features

Standard insurance is included in the rental price. It covers scratches, accident damage, and theft. It does not cover medical expenses or third-party liability.

Standard insurance works with an excess. The excess is the amount the client pays in case of damage. For example, if the excess is 8 million IDR and the damage is 1.5 million, the client pays the full 1.5 million. If the damage is 25 million, the client pays 8 million and the rest is covered by the insurance company.

Full insurance removes the excess. Any damage is paid by the insurance company regardless of the amount. This is convenient for those who want to remove financial risks completely. Full insurance is arranged for an additional fee.

Traffic Conditions and Driving Features

Traffic in Bali is left-hand. The steering wheel is on the right side. The first half hour may feel unusual, but after that adaptation usually comes naturally. Average speed in cities is 30-50 km/h, and on larger roads up to 80 km/h. Local drivers do not always follow lane markings, may change lanes without turn signals, and often move slowly in the left lane.

Traffic jams are most common in tourist areas and during rush hours - in the morning and closer to the evening. The busiest areas are usually Canggu and Ubud, while heavy traffic is also common in Seminyak, Kuta, and Denpasar.

 Parking at shopping centers is usually paid - generally from 3,000 to 20,000 IDR depending on the location. Near beaches, parking usually costs around 5,000-10,000 IDR. Villas and hotels usually have their own parking.

 Gas stations are easy to find in Bali. The most common network is Pertamina. Fuel is sold at standard gas stations, and in smaller areas it is also available in bottles by the roadside, although the quality may differ. A full tank in a compact car is usually enough for about 400-500 km.

Practical Details

Air conditioning works in all cars. The climate is tropical, and driving without AC is uncomfortable. Fuel consumption increases by 10-15% with the AC on, but that is a reasonable trade-off for comfort.

Navigation works well through Google Maps. Internet coverage on the island is good, and maps load quickly. You can also download offline maps in advance if you plan to drive in more remote areas.

Child seats are not included as standard. If you need one, let us know in advance when booking. Child seat rules in Indonesia are not as strict as in Europe, but the safety of children remains the responsibility of the parents.

Routes and Directions

From Seminyak to Ubud takes about an hour by car. The road goes through Denpasar and may include traffic in rush hours. You can also go via Canggu and bypass the city center - it takes longer, but the drive is calmer.

To Uluwatu from the south takes about 40 minutes. The road is good and there are ocean views along the way. You can stop in Jimbaran on the route. From Seminyak to Tanah Lot temple is about an hour, with the road running along the coast.

The northern coast with Lovina and waterfalls is two to three hours from the southern resorts. The road goes through the mountains and includes many turns and climbs. It is better to leave in the morning to avoid getting tired.

The eastern part of the island with Amed and its beaches also takes two to three hours. The road is less congested and passes through rice fields and traditional villages.

Minor damage such as scratches should be recorded with photos and sent to the manager. With full insurance, no extra payment is required. With standard insurance, the damage is assessed and the excess is applied if the amount exceeds the limit.
